Preservation/Dry-Film

Our wet-state Preservation and Anti Defacement Dry- Film Line of Products

OVERVIEW

Aquaserv offers biocides that are used in paints, coatings, in-can preservation including caulks, adhesives, joint compounds, and other related products. Bacterial activity in these products can cause spoiling, loss of viscosity and loss of performance. Additionally, in-plant biocides are useful to control bacterial contamination in incoming raw materials and may also be needed to rework stored product. Whatever your need, Aquaserv is here to help determine the best biocide option. Aquaserv has recently been expanding its preservation line of products and continues to bring in old and new technologies as offerings to customers. Just ask us and we probably have a solution for you.

CHLORO-METHYL-ISOTHIAZOLINONE/METHYL-ISOTHIAZOLINONE (CMIT/MIT)

CMIT/MIT is a broad-spectrum biocidal mixture that is highly effective at very low concentrations in controlling both planktonic and sessile bacteria, fungi and algae. It is an excellent in-can preservative at very low levels. CMIT/MIT causes immediate inhibition of growth on contact with active microorganisms. The growth inhibition rapidly becomes irreversible and results in cell death. Even before death occurs, the treated organism is unable to synthesize degradative enzymes or the exopolymers which facilitate surface adhesion and biofilm formation. CMIT/MIT is effective in controlling a wide variety of algae, bacteria and fungi. This broad-spectrum activity reduces the need for multiple biocides and lessens the risk of dosing error. CMIT/MIT provides effective preservation at typical use levels of 15 ppm active ingredient in industrial products. Extensive toxicological testing has shown CMIT/MIT to exhibit low toxicity at recommended use levels.

Applications:

  • Paint, water-based coating application tanks and latex
  • Adhesives
  • Mineral slurries

Zinc Borate (ZB)

Zinc borate is an inorganic compound that presents as a white crystalline powder. It’s insoluble in water. Several variants of zinc borate exist with different zinc/boron ratios and water contents. Zinc borate has low toxicity and isn’t considered hazardous. The fire-retardant properties of zinc borate form the foundation for many of its uses in industry. Still, it also has many other useful characteristics. The flame-retardant and smoke suppressing properties of zinc borate define how it’s primarily used in paints, adhesives, and pigments. In combination with zinc phosphate or barium phosphate, it acts as a corrosion inhibiting pigment. Zinc borate is found in plastics and cellulose fibres, paints and fungicides. ZB is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial that is highly effective in controlling fungi, yeasts and molds.  ZB is also effective against bacteria.   Zinc borate is also used as a flame suppressant in cellulose fibres, paper, rubbers and textiles. Other uses include a wood treatment for fungus control and to improve the friction properties in lubricants. It also finds use as an adhesive in bonding aluminium foil and fibreglass. This compound even finds use in insulating ceramics as flux. It also has the effect of reducing firing time and temperatures for ceramics. For this reason, it’s often used in the manufacture of bricks and porcelain.
