Water used in oil and gas operations usually contain bacteria, including sulfate-reducing bacteria, acid-producing bacteria, nitrate-reducing bacteria, and heterotrophic aerobic bacteria, to name a few. If bacterial activity is left unchecked, it can lead to corrosion, souring, well-clogging, degradation of important components such as polymers in water-based fluids and safety hazards. To mitigate these damages, various types of biocides are used for proper microbial control in oil and gas operations.

GLUTARALDEHYDE

Glutaraldehyde is a broad spectrum biocide that is highly effective over a wide range of pH and temperature conditions against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, sulfatereducing bacteria (SRB), and acid-producing bacteria (APB). Its biocidal activity is due to the ability of glutaraldehyde to react with primary amines of the microbial cell wall, which prevents normal metabolic functions, resulting in cell death. Aquaserv offers a broad line of glutaraldehyde-based solutions, containing up to 50 percent active by weight. These glutaraldehyde-based products have found widespread use in a variety of applications that require EPA approval.

QUATERNARY AMMONIUM CHLORIDES

Quaternary ammonium chlorides (QUATS) are surface-active, broad spectrum biocides that are highly effective over a wide range of pH and temperature conditions against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), and acid-producing bacteria (APB). Their biocidal activity is due to the ability of quats to penetrate the cytoplasmic membrane until it no longer functions as a semi-permeable membrane, causing vital substances to leak out of the cell, cell rupture and death. Aquaserv offers a broad line of quaternary ammonium chloride-based products, containing up to 50 percent active by weight. These QUAT-based products have found widespread use in a variety of applications that require EPA approval.

GLUTARALDEHYDE / QUATERNARY AMMONIUM CHLORIDE BLENDS

Glutaraldehyde / quaternary ammonium chloride (QUAT) blends are broad spectrum biocidal products that are highly effective over a wide range of pH and temperature conditions against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), and acid-producing bacteria (APB). These blends combine the proven biocidal efficacy of glutaraldehyde with the surfaceactive, biocidal properties of QUATs, providing enhanced biocidal activity greater than the respective individual biocides alone. Aquaserv offers a broad line of glutaraldehyde/QUAT-based products, containing up to 50 percent active by weight. These glutaraldehyde/QUAT-based products are some of the most widely used biocidal products today, because of their broad- spectrum efficacy and cost effectiveness in a wide variety of applications that require EPA approval.

DBNPA

DBNPA is a broad spectrum, fast-acting biocide that is highly effective at low concentrations against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and acid-producing bacteria (APB). Its biocidal activity is due to the ability of DBNPA to inhibit cell respiration and enzyme activity, resulting in cell death. DBNPA has an outstanding environmental profile due to its fast degradation to carbon dioxide, ammonia, and bromide ion, all of which are considered innocuous to the environment. Aquaserv offers a line of DBNPA-based solutions, containing up to 20 percent active by weight. These DBNPA-based products have found widespread use in a variety of applications
that require EPA approval.

THPS

THPS is a broad spectrum biocide that is highly effective against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria especially against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) which are particularly troublesome in enhanced oil recovery operations. Its biocidal activity is due to the ability of THPS to destroy proteins of the cell wall, resulting in cell death. The use of the THPS has also been shown to be effective in dissolving iron sulfide and improving separation efficiency. THPS has a very good toxicity profile as well as an outstanding environmental profile. Aquaserv offers a broad line of THPS-based solutions, containing up to 75 percent active by weight. These THPS-based products have found widespread use in a variety of applications that require EPA approval.

DAZOMET

Dazomet is a broad spectrum biocide that is highly effective against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, spoilage-bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and acidproducing bacteria (APB), fungi and yeasts. It is designed for long-term preservation and protection against biofilm formation and microbial activity that leads to microbial-influenced corrosion (MIC), reservoir souring, and conductivity losses, among other concerns. Dazomet is compatible with oxygen scavenging systems and friction reducers, along with many other fracturing chemistries. Aquaserv offers an aqueous dazomet-based solution containing 24 percent active by weight. Our dazomet-based product has found use in a variety of preservation applications that require EPA approval.

DMDM HYDANTOIN

DMDM hydantoin is a broad spectrum biocide that preserves and aids in control of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria such as slime-forming bacteria, sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and acidproducing bacteria (APB) in oilfield recovery, processing, distribution and support systems such as water injection, produced lines, storage tanks and pipelines. It is effective for use in controlling microbial growth in fluids used in drilling, completion, workover and stimulation of oil wells. Aquaserv offers an aqueous DMDM hydantoin-based solution, containing 64.7 percent active by weight. Our DMDM hydantoin-based product has found widespread use in a variety of preservation applications that require EPA approval.

DMO

DMO (4,4 Dimethyl Oxazolidine) is a broad spectrum bactericide. It is a cost effective antimicrobial that offers both performance and stability in alkaline systems and products for use in oil and gas production. DMO helps prevent bacterial degradation in these systems. The active DMO is both water and oil-soluble.

Corrosion Inhibitors

We offer various quaternary ammonium chloride-based products that can be used as corrosion inhibitors in the oil and gas industry. These products provide superb corrosion inhibition performance when added into treatment fluids, protecting the metal components the fluids are likely to contact.

Clay Stabilizers

Our unique clay stabilizers are very low molecular weight, high-charge density polyamines. These absorb onto and into clays and shales, minimizing hydration and rendering the minerals stable in the presence of aqueous fluids. We offer clay stabilizers for nonionic, cationic, and anionic fluids.

Scale Inhibitors

Our team provides scale inhibitors that are a synergistic blend of chelants. It is supplied as a concentrated aqueous solution that may be diluted with water in any proportion. The products we offer chelate various metals at dosages that are lower than those required by individual chelants and perform well in a pH range of 3.0 – 13.0.
